ith the 2013 release of LUDAVERSAL, fans can look forward to more great music from Ludacris.
In addition to immense commercial success, Ludacris' consistent output of stellar music has garnered the admiration of his peers, as well as numerous awards and honors including three Grammys.
The same talent and versatility that Ludacris showcases in his music has enabled him to make a seamless and successful transition to acting, with acclaimed performances in films including Crash, Hustle & Flow and the #1 movie, No Strings Attached in January 2011, and television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, under his belt. His work in Crash earned him the prestigious Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice awards. He co-starred in The Fast & The Furious film series, Fast Five, which debuted at #1 in April 2011 and in May 2013, he will co-star in the latest installment of the series, Fast Six.
In addition to his non-stop efforts in the studio, on stage and on the big and small screens, Ludacris’ long held entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a restaurant, Straits, in Atlanta, GA in 2008 which he closed after 2 years in business to concentrate on the opening of his new restaurant, Chicken n Beer, which opens in Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Concourse D in 2013. Along with launching his own spirit, Conjure Cognac in 2009, Ludacris also entered into a partnership to launch SOUL by Ludacris headphones, which entered into the market in the summer of 2011. Both of these ventures have captured the attention and affection of the public and firmly established themselves in their respective markets in a short time.
Although one could wonder how Ludacris finds the time for anything outside of work, his artistic and business fortitude is only rivaled by his desire to give back and use his success to change the lives of others. This passion inspired him to establish the Ludacris Foundation, a non-profit organization which seeks to inspire youth through education and memorable experiences to live their dreams by uplifting families, communities and fostering economic development.
In 2010, MSNBC.com named Ludacris, along with other eminent figures such as Oprah Winfrey and Warren Buffet, as one of today’s most effective influencers on American culture. With his feet firmly planted in so many diverse areas, we can certainly see why.
A key part of that creative spark comes from the teamwork of Mercurio and Ellman, whose ever-evolving production and arranging skills helped usher the band into a new phase of studio work beginning with the loop-centric "Ruckus" in 2007. A series of albums focused around specific concepts followed, as did collaborations with guests hailing from worlds outside the one Galactic calls its own.
On "Into the Deep," the band members look within themselves instead, drawing inspiration from people and ideas that have long been close to their hearts – and, in turn, close to the development of their unique sound. Shot through with soul, funk, blues and rock, the result is an organic riff on elements of Galactic's past, filtered through the lens of where they're headed in 2015.
As said by Paste Magazine, "Musically, the album bears all the hallmarks of vintage funk and R&B, but inventive production techniques help distinguish the band from their contemporaries." 'Into the Deep,' is a menagerie of both old and new and will make ya shake ya booty.
In their 13 years together, Soulive has followed the muse in the direction of hip-hop, R&B, blues and rock, collaborating with the likes of Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews, Talib Kweli, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Maceo Parker, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Fred Wesley, The Roots, Ivan Neville and so many others, even going so far as to record a full album of covers by The Beatles (Rubber Soulive). But, no matter how they push the limits of the organ trio, they always come back to their bread and butter: blistering solos and grooves that don't quit.
Tatanka encapsulates the heavy roots rumble of the Caribbean, while maintaining the pop sensibilities of the dance-oriented electronic sounds from the Britannica-American reggae scenes. These sounds are what fueled the groups newest album,’Tatanka‘. Written over the span of a year and a half, Tatanka recorded their self-titled album at Imperial Sound in San Diego. Reggae rocker Ted Bowne from PASSAFIRE and roots magician The Maad T-Ray of Tribal Seeds feature on a counter-culture wake up call entitled “The Yard”. Jamaican sing-jay Triston Palmer is heard on a bouncy number labeled “Give Green“. The tune pays homage to never giving up and believing in yourself. En Young of Tribal Seeds can also be heard throughout the album. The album debuted at #1 on the iTunes reggae charts and #4 on Billboard’s reggae charts. The positive lyrics and heavy sounds garnered radio air-play all around the globe.
Tatanka’s ‘Sounds In Technicolor‘ EP has racked up over 20,000 downloads and has attributed to the flourishing fan base. This recognition has led to tours across the US and Canada with acts such as Tribal Seeds, Stick Figure, Lee Scratch Perry, Fortunate Youth, Easy Star Allstars, Passafire, and more. In conjunction with a heavy tour schedule, Tatanka has also played a multitude of festivals including California Roots, Powell-a-Palooza, Desert Rocks, Arise, and a plethora of others.
Formed in Denver Colorado by a few college friends, Tatanka has been recognized as “Breakout Artist of the Year” (2014) by The Pier, High Times “Unsigned Band of the Month” (September 2011), and nominated by Westword magazine for “Colorado’s Reggae/Jam Band of the Year” (2015). With 2015 providing a large amount of clout, Tatanka will be releasing a remix album of their self-titled record as well as several new singles.
Tatanka’s infectious live show is the bridge between the band and the fans. It unifies the crowd with a progressing, pulsing, and positive perspective. Tatanka is always looking to further instill a global vision of unity with their pounding, dynamic sounds and peaceful, harmonious message.
“We all go help them, People come together no selfish.” - Reward Them, TATANKA
It all began for Mikey at the age of 15 when he discovered DJing in Springfield , Mass. Thru friends older brother's record collections and the Hiphop scene in the city. From there he moved up to Burlington Vt. and immersed himself in the diverse musical culture. In the fall of 1999, he relocated to the mountains of Jackson Hole where he was soon kidnapped by Michael Franti and Spearhead for the Stay Human Tour. After opening for Spearhead in Jackson Hole, Thunder was handpicked by Michael Franti to open the rest of the tour, where he mixed beats into their sets, during set break, and scratched with their beatboxer, Radioactive.
After the Spearhead tour Mikey relocated to Boulder and continued to pursue his musical career. At that time Thunder also was an Atari playing stuntman/ DJ in the band Sonar. The band shared the stage with the Wailers at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the String Cheese Incident, and played Hightimes Magazine’s SXSW party, and the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. In the fall of 2009 Mikey joined the Pretty Lights crew, opened for over 30 shows on their tours and performed cuts on the Making Up a Changing Mind EP, released in 2010. He also has played the sold out Red Rocks Amphitheater runs with PL in 2012/13/14.
Since that time, he has made his presence known in every single facet of the Colorado music industry. Over the years he has shared the stage with an extremely diverse range of musicians, including (but certainly not limited to): Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, The Disco Biscuits, Boombox, Soul Live, Lettuce, The Motet, Michal Menert, Nightmares on Wax, Mr. Scruff, DJ Krush, Bonobo, Z Trip, DJ Qbert, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Jurassic 5, Slick Rick, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface killa, Red Man, Juicy J, and Big Boi of Outkast. Additionally, he has been prominently featured on such festivals as Shambhala, Sonic Bloom, Snowball, Global Dance Festival, and many others.
Mikey Thunder’s true talent lies in his versatility. Every Thunder performance presents something familiar in an entirely unfamiliar way, as well as something unfamiliar presented in a way that is immediately recognizable as Thunder.
