Mark Farina
Mark Farina
Mark Farina has solidified himself in the pantheon of Dance Music as a trailblazing DJ, Producer, tastemaker and bona fide House Music icon. After 3 decades criss-crossing the globe, he shows no signs of slowing down and remains innovative, humble, and firmly rooted in the underground.

“I look at my job as a ‘modern day traveling minstrel’. To bring new music to as many places as I can and expose obscure records that otherwise might go hidden.”

Farina pushed musical boundaries even further when he experimented with a deeper style of music that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. Combining the likes of De La Soul with disco classics and Martin Luther King samples, he seamlessly blended West Coast jazzy beats, acid jazz grooves, the Chicago House sound of his youth and some ‘90s New York Hip-Hop.  The result: Mushroom Jazz. The birth of this new sound cemented Farina’s musical versatility. He recorded limited-edition cassette tapes that would sell out in minutes at Chicago’s Gramophone Records, the store Mark worked at in the early 90’s. In a testament to the series’ continued impact on the culture of Dance Music, in 2016, Mark dropped Mushroom Jazz Eight which not only celebrated its 25th Anniversary but also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album Chart.

Currently, Farina is the head honcho at his record label, Great Lakes Audio, where he actively fans the flames of House Music in it’s purest form.

Derek Russo
Derek Russo
Currently based in Denver, CO, Derek Russo is a staple in the Colorado dance music scene. Raised in Washington, D.C. on house music and hip hop, Russo started his musical journey playing guitar in several bands throughout junior high and high school in the early 90's. His early influences were his sister's Prince and Led Zeppelin records, his dad's Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, and 60's surf rock records. The late 90's saw him immersed in the world of improvised rock music and jazz. Not until his early 20's did the electronic music world envelop him fully, pushing him to buy a set of turntables in 2002. He was immersed himself in a variety of sounds and was buying records at now shuttered D.C. shops like DJ Hut and Yoshitoshi. Downtempo nights at Eighteenth St. Lounge, legendary Sunday nights at Red with Sam "The Man" Burns, and the quirky party Lemur Lounge informed his formal years of clubbing and record shopping. A move to Colorado in 2004 saw him push his craft further with weekly residencies at Hapa and Trilogy in Boulder, before a move to Denver in 2013 shifted things once again to the present day.

Russo throws the bi-monthly party Family Affair with fellow DJ's Ejay, Jerome Baker, and Michael Jones. Family Affair is inspired by David Mancuso's Loft parties and strives to provide a warm family atmosphere in underground spaces throughout the city. Angelina Saavadra provides the decor and sets the vibe for an eclectic and uncompromising selection of deep house gems, classic disco, rousing funk jams and all things inbetween. Family Affair has become one of Denver's most beloved parties.

Known for his ability to adapt seemlessly to any type of DJ gig, he's equally comfortable playing lower bpm, eclectic opening sets, to banging out house and techno in a dark basement, to disco and funk party jams on a sunny rooftop.

He serves as the resident DJ at Knew Conscious Gallery, in addition to holding a monthly radio show entitled Morning Fever, a 2-hour show that airs every 2nd Sunday on internetpublicradio.live, with repeated rewinds throughout the month.
