Mod Sun
Mod Sun
It can be far too easy to get caught in negativity in today's world. We're surrounded by it in the news, the media and even entertainment. And that's what makes Mod Sun's music and message all the more refreshing.

"It's about empowerment. It's about saying it's okay to sit by yourself on a Friday night and make music. You'll never be lonely if you love the person you're alone with," says the rapper, whose name stands for "Movement On Dreams Stand Under None."

A Minnesota native, Mod grew up in a household that played everything from Bob Dylan to Prince, and that eclectic foundation has informed his musical journey. He started playing drums at age 13, and by 16, he began touring with a few bands, including the successful rock group Four Letter Lie.

But his heart told him to go after something else.

"I was in a state of comfort, touring and in a band, and I decided I wanted to totally change it up and do something I believed in," the 27-year-old remembers.

So he gave up that steady gig to pick up the mic. Mod wrote his first song at age 19, and hasn't looked back since. Over the last eight years, he has released six mixtapes and three EPs. He has collaborated with artists including Schoolboy Q, Nipsey Hussle and G-Eazy, and earned a spot as one of sixteen independent artists from around the world competing for the cover of Rolling Stone in 2011.

After his most recent release, 2012's Happy As Fuck, he again proved his artistic versatility, by momentarily shifting his writing focus in a new direction: His book, Did I Ever Wake Up?

"It's all about the fact of making your life a dream," he says of the inspirational work. "I was a stubborn kid. You can never learn if you're always right. It took all these things for me to become what I want to be."

Now, the focus is again squarely on the music. He's built plenty of momentum over the last year, thanks to videos for tracks like "My Hippy, "Free Love" and "Mushrooms." And now, Mod is getting ready to deliver his Friend Base — because he has no fans, only friends — his debut album, which is due at the top of 2015, through Rostrum Records.

The music has grown, but the underlying message remains.
"No matter the amount of negativity you're presented with, 5 minutes from now could be your best moment."
Caskey

Brandon Caskey (born August 28, 1992) is an American rapper, better known by his stage name Caskey. After releasing mixtapes independently including No Complaints (2012), Caskey signed to Birdman’s Cash Money Records and Republic Records in August 2012. He is currently prepping his untitled debut studio album.

Throughout his childhood Caskey would write other genres of music, and once he got into high school he began writing raps. While recording his first official mixtape Homegrown Vol. 1 he linked up with Orlando area producers The Avengerz. Ever since then, The Avengerz formed a significant part of the production side of his music. A few weeks prior to its release he was in a motorcycle accident, where he suffered pinched nerves in his left arm. On April 20, 2011 Caskey released Homegrown Vol. 1 as a free download.

In August 2012, Caskey released his second official mixtape titled No Complaints featuring production primarily by The Avengerz. After significant marketing and promotion of No Complaints, the mixtape caught the attention of Birdman. Upon hearing it and meeting with Caskey Birdman said he immediately knew he was a star. In early August 2012, Cash Money Records released a video of Caskey officially signing to Cash Money. Not only did he sign a recording contract, but also a publishing, marketing and merchandising deal with Money Mack Music and Cash Money Marketing LLC respectively. Upon signing he said “I’ve wanted to be a performer my whole life, so signing with Cash Money Records and having this platform to release my music has been a dream.

I greatly respect Birdman, Slim and the YMCMB family. I look forward to making the city of Orlando, my fans and my label proud.” To celebrate he released “Cash Money Records 100 Bars” on September 13.

On December 8, 2012, he released his debut single “Keep It on the Low”

featuring Kyle Denmead from the No Complaints mixtape which reached radio, MTV Jamz and BET 106 and Park. He had a solo track titled “FBGM” on the YMCMB mixtape Rich Gang: All Stars, which was released on February 18, 2013. Then on February 25, 2013, Cash Money re-released No Complaints with two bonus tracks. He was featured on the Cash Money Records compilation album Rich Gang, on the song “Sunshine” also featuring Birdman, Limp Bizkit and Flo-Rida. Artist direct would call the song one of the album’s standout tracks.

On June 24, 2013, Caskey announced that his upcoming mixtape would be titled The Transient Classics. On July 16, he revealed the cover art for The Transient Classics and announced it would be released on his 21 birthday, August 28, 2013. The mixtape was primarily produced by The Avengerz and featured guest appearances from Trae tha Truth, Machine Gun Kelly, Riff Raff, JellyRoll and Rittz among others. His debut album is currently being recorded at 212 Recording in Orlando, Florida, with its release scheduled for 2014.
