Dr. Klaw
Dr. Klaw
Dr Klaw was born in Nawlins a few years ago when New York funk musicians Adam Deitch ( John Scofield, AWB), Nigel Hall(Warren Haynes band) and Eric Krasno of Soulive (all members of Lettuce )were visiting Nawlins Jazz fest for some gigs. Guitarist Ian Neville, son of organist and vocalist Art Neville of the legendary Meters, suggested they do some small late night gigs around town with his fellow Dumpstaphunk compatriot, the incredible Nick Daniels. Upon witnessing Nick "Dr Klaw" Daniels otherwordly, gospel influenced vocal skills and funk bass mastery, Nigel, Kraz, Deitch, and Neville knew that this group needed to be heard! Hearing Nigel and Nicks amazing vocal styles together over a bed of swampy N.O. funk with a taste of NY soul, are the main ingredients that make Dr Klaw one of the premier PURE funk and soul acts out today. The Klaw has become a major part of the Royal Family lineups at jazz fest, Bear Creek festival and Jam Cruise. Dr Klaw is hard at work making their debut album for Royal Family Records to be released at Bear Creek festival 2011. With Nigel on the B3 organ and clavinet as well as vocals, Deitch throwin down tasty breakbeats, Kraz and Neville fitting funk guitar lines together like intricate puzzles and Nicks powerhouse vocals and bass stylings, Dr Klaw is like the aural equivalent of a fully dressed oyster Po boy sandwich with spicy cajun mustard/remoulade sauce, and it sure tastes good!
Eric Krasno
Eric Krasno
For nearly two decades, Eric Krasno has been an omnipresent figure in popular music. We've heard his virtuosic, innovative guitar playing with Soulive and Lettuce (both of which he co-founded), seen him onstage supporting the likes of the Rolling Stones, Dave Mathews Band, John Mayer and The Roots, watched him take home multiple GRAMMY Awards, and benefited from his deft, behind-the-scenes work as a producer and songwriter for everyone from Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, and 50 Cent to Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone. Krasno's recent solo album, 'Blood From A Stone,' reveals a previously unknown and utterly compelling side of his artistry, though, inviting us to bear witness as he both literally and metaphorically finds his voice.

Adam Deitch
Adam Deitch
Adam’s career has crossed genres, focusing on hip-hop, funk and jazz, playing the role of both drummer and producer. The son of two professional funk drummers and Berklee grads, Adam first picked up his sticks at the age of two. His first gig was at a school assembly for his kindergarten class.
Adam was inspired by hip-hop at an early age, listening closely to Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim. Adam began his production career by making loops on a tape deck in his bedroom and has gone on to produce tracks for some of today’s top artists including Ledisi, Matisyahu, 50-Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, KRS-One and MF Doom.
Adam has done major session work on drums for artists including Justin Timberlake, Daniel Bedingfield, Anthony Hamilton, DJ Quik and Wycleff, Black Rob and Afu-Ru and the Fugees record, sure to be one of the year’s biggest records. Recently Adam has made appearances touring with Pretty Lights, The Game (The Tonight Show), Slick Rick, Lauryn Hill, Pras of the Fugees, GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Dead Prez, the Ying Yang Twins, John Medeski, Meshell Ndegeocello and his own Fyre Dept as well as being a regular part of Wycleff Jean and Eve’s band.
In his third year at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he joined the world renowned Average White Band, with whom he performed for the two following years. Adam was featured on the band’s DVD, Live in LA, recorded at a sold out show at the House of Blues, and showed the band was at it’s best. While touring with AWB, Adam performed alongside many of his heroes including Earth, Wind and Fire, Tower of Power and Chaka Kahn.
Adam is a founding member of Lettuce, who has been recording and touring for 15 years. Lettuce features such noted musicians as Eric Krasno, Ryan Zoidis, Sam Kininger and Neal Evans of Soulive, Erick Coomes, Adam Smirnoff (Robert Randolph) and Rashawn Ross (Dave Mathews Band). Lettuce is a funk powerhouse with a cult following from NYC to Tokyo. Lettuce’s third studio record, RAGE! was released in April 2008 to rave reviews and sold out shows.
Adam has branched out from hip-hop and funk, recording and touring with jazz legend John Scofield. Adam has recorded on two of John’s latest records (both released on legendary label Verve Records), Up All Night, for which he also shares composers credit on many of the tracks, and the Grammy nominated Uberjam.
Recently, Adam’s focus has been on Break Science, his electro duo with collaborator Borahm Lee. Break Science club music in the vain of a “Live Mix Tape”, blending live trip-hop, broken-beat, dub, drum & bass and of course, hip-hop.
Nigel Hall
Nigel Hall
Soul provider Nigel Hall is in many ways an artist who needs no introduction. An in-demandsideman, he’sbuilt a mighty foundation of funk over the years onstage and in the studio withcollaborators including the Warren Haynes Band, Jon Cleary, Soulive, Oteil Burbridge and Roosevelt Collier, Ledisi, the Soul Rebels, Lettuce and countless others. Legions of fans are already well in the know about Hall’s copious keyboard chops and powerful vocal style. But even to them, his Feel Music/Round Hill debut solo album will be arevelation –a confirmation that Hall has stepped out front and center into a creative space to call his own.“Ladies &Gentlemen... Nigel Hall,” due out in digital formatNovember 13thand vinyl November 27, captures the spirit of the songs that made Hall a musician. It was produced by EricKrasno, guitarist and producer of music by a dizzying array of artists including Norah Jones, Justin Timberlake, Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville and Matisyahu. Hall’soriginal compositions, from the blissful, sunny ‘60s-style soul groovesoflead single“Gimme A Sign” and “Never Gonna Let You Go” to the teasing, R&B kiss of downtempo cuts like “Too Sweet” and “Call on Me” show off a record collector’s pitch-perfect knowledge and a lifelong fan’s passion for gritty, muscular rhythm and blues, funky dancefloor rave-ups and sultry bedroom serenades. Nigel Hall grew up in Washington, D.C., in a highly musical family. His fingers first touched the keys before he hit kindergarten age, and his ears were wide open. “I grew up with records,” he said. “That’s why I’m obsessed. My father had a vast collection. I’d be in third grade with my Walkman and everyone’s listening to Ace of Bass, and I’m listening to “Return to Forever,” Chick Corea’s fusion project with Stanley Clarke. The vintage soundsof “Ladies & Gentlemen... Nigel Hall,” infused with his electric freshness, together make both an audible autobiography and Nigel Hall’s musical mission statement. Cover choices including Ramp’s “Try, Try, Try,” written by Roy Ayers, Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain,” and Latimore’s “Let’s Straighten It Out”-deep album cuts from the back pages of golden-age R&B-reveal a true student of the sound. Most of the songs on “Ladies & Gentlemen... Nigel Hall” were cut in one take, straight from Hall’s spirit to tape. It’s a loving, detailed, sure-handed scrapbook of American soul influence that tugs your heart and moves your hips.“Music is our way of traveling through time,” he said. His cover of Stanley Clarke’s “I Just Want To Love You,” for example, newly recorded as a turn-the-clock-back, Motown-infused duet with intensely soulful vocalist Alecia Chakour, was originally released the year Hall was born, in 1981.“It’s a part ofmy life, a part of my childhood, and it’s a part of what made me me, that song,” he said.
Nigel Hall is alsoa relatively newresident of one of America’s most sonically significant cities, a place that has always respected the power of history. Since relocating to New Orleansin late 2013, Nigel Hall has been embraced by its world-renownedmusic community. In early 2014, a feature in its premier music-focused magazine, Offbeat, enthusiastically welcomed Hall as “a perfect fit” for the vibrant city and its singular culture. The Times-Picayune’s review of his solo debut at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival the same year crowned him with a comparison to Southern funk godfather Art Neville. “It’s the best decision I ever made for myself in my life and musically,” Hall said of the move. “I’m surrounded by the most amazing, incredible musicians in the world at all times. The big picture, the sincerity is very present here at all times. It’s a breath of fresh air. Everybody’s in the vibe. Everybody’s feeling something.”You can feel it on“Ladies & Gentlemen... Nigel Hall,” particularly on the slinky, nasty, Meters-style funk of “Don’t Change for Me.” But Hall’s recent past is present, too;; his Lettuce co-conspirator Eric Krasno shares writing credit on severalof the original tracks, and longtime jamband collaborators like sax man Ryan Zoidis and drummer Adam Deitch, of Lettuce and Soulive, lend their talents. So does fellow crate-digger Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, who guests on a cover of the Isley Brothers’ “Lay Away” along with former Rolling Stones sideman Ivan Neville. “I like to sing songs that reflect my being and who I am as a person,” he said. “Because that really touches me. When you hear a song and it makes you cry, or it makes you happy or it evokes any kind of feeling, that is music. That is what music is supposed to do. And music is the last pure thing we have left on this earth. It’s the only pure thing. "
