Steely Dead is a musical hybrid of the the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan. Sonic worlds collide, between the jazz rock arrangements and precision studio recordings of legends Steely Dan, cross-pollinated with the Grateful Dead’s free flowing, rock improvisation and masterful song segues. Steely Dead merges these major concepts together while infusing the influence unto each band. For example taking the Grateful Dead’s rocking set ender Deal and Steely Dan’s major hit Reelin’ In the Years creating the mashup Dealin’ in the Years. Steely Dead is committed to the nuance of both bands while remaining playful with jam segues between songs, and delivering a unique musical blend. For fans of both or either one of these great bands. Steely Dead's line up includes Dave Abear formerly of Melvin Seals and JGB, Greg Koerner formerly Dark Star Orchestra, Bill Mckay formerly Leftover Salmon, Chris Sheldon and Paul Murin of Dead Phish Orchestra.
Focusing on powerful original music written by Dave A'Bear and Greg Koerner. Bear Tread is a collaboration of hand picked world class musicians. Our live shows take you on a sonic journey covering our favorite musical genres from around the wold.
Steepland String Band
'Steepland String Band is a high altitude bluegrass band distilled deep in the mighty San Juan Mountain Range of southwestern Colorado. 'Steepland' is a fast driving, hard picking acoustic trio that explores a vast multitude of musical genres, while managing to stay rooted in bluegrass tradition. Formerly known as 'The Hot Licks," the band was created around the love for and dedication to live music, and since then have been creating a unique style of their own, while managing to carve a niche in a genre of increasingly similar sounds. Drawing from an extensive library of covers, and a continually expanding catalogue of original material, each show successfully develops an experience for audiences that keeps them coming back for more. From the slap-style upright bass, to the piercing mandolin solos, driving guitar leads, and lonesome vocal harmonies, Steepland String Band is definitely right at home in Colorado’s community of progressive acoustic aficionados and dedicated show-goers.
