Constantly on the studio grind, SunSquabi is always striving to change and mature their sound. They continue to break down and analyze the expectations of what a “Live-Electronic” band should be. Through their own studio recordings and collaborations with other artists such as Griz, SunSquabi is dedicated to their ever evolving craft in the studio and on the live stage.
A recent overhaul on the live set has propelled the group into 2015, with plans to tour all over the U.S. They will be making appearances at several major festivals this summer, with an album release planned for late Summer 2015.
erience is as beautiful as it is intense as they bend guitars, basses, drums, mandolins, and the bajo quinto around a core of unrelenting rhythm and massive low end production.
After releasing five albums of entirely original music between 2010 - 2011 including a full length entitled Imaginary Lines in Sept of 2010, and then releasing a new EP on the first day of each new season throughout 2011, this prolific band is about to release a studio project unlike anything they've ever done.
Signal Path's new mixtaEP will feature remixes mashed up with Signal Path's unique take on electronic music. Artists featured include, Zola Jesus, The Roots, Active Child, Skrillex, Austra, Shabazz Palaces, Mode Selektor, Main Attrakzions, Asap Rocky, Sleighbells, and Cults.
With this new studio release, Signal Path has taken some of their favorite current artists and sliced, diced, and turned them into a musical collage unlike anything they've done before. From the unlikely, yet emotionally deep Zola Jesus/Skrillex mashup to the instant banger, Swerve, featuring Shabazz Palaces, this new mixtaEP is pure ear candy for not only hardcore SP fans but fans of electronic, hip hop, and indie music as a whole!
It all began for Mikey at the age of 15 when he discovered DJing in Springfield , Mass. Thru friends older brother's record collections and the Hiphop scene in the city. From there he moved up to Burlington Vt. and immersed himself in the diverse musical culture. In the fall of 1999, he relocated to the mountains of Jackson Hole where he was soon kidnapped by Michael Franti and Spearhead for the Stay Human Tour. After opening for Spearhead in Jackson Hole, Thunder was handpicked by Michael Franti to open the rest of the tour, where he mixed beats into their sets, during set break, and scratched with their beatboxer, Radioactive.
After the Spearhead tour Mikey relocated to Boulder and continued to pursue his musical career. At that time Thunder also was an Atari playing stuntman/ DJ in the band Sonar. The band shared the stage with the Wailers at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the String Cheese Incident, and played Hightimes Magazine’s SXSW party, and the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. In the fall of 2009 Mikey joined the Pretty Lights crew, opened for over 30 shows on their tours and performed cuts on the Making Up a Changing Mind EP, released in 2010. He also has played the sold out Red Rocks Amphitheater runs with PL in 2012/13/14.
Since that time, he has made his presence known in every single facet of the Colorado music industry. Over the years he has shared the stage with an extremely diverse range of musicians, including (but certainly not limited to): Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, The Disco Biscuits, Boombox, Soul Live, Lettuce, The Motet, Michal Menert, Nightmares on Wax, Mr. Scruff, DJ Krush, Bonobo, Z Trip, DJ Qbert, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Jurassic 5, Slick Rick, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface killa, Red Man, Juicy J, and Big Boi of Outkast. Additionally, he has been prominently featured on such festivals as Shambhala, Sonic Bloom, Snowball, Global Dance Festival, and many others.
Mikey Thunder’s true talent lies in his versatility. Every Thunder performance presents something familiar in an entirely unfamiliar way, as well as something unfamiliar presented in a way that is immediately recognizable as Thunder.
Throughout his musical career, Austin has shared the stage with such notable artists as Eddie C. Campbell and Shirley King in Chicago. Throughout school Austin worked to further develop his musical skillset and began crafting his own sounds. Kinetik Groove was born through various guitar, bass, and synth recordings compiled through a Frostex multitracker. As the electronic music and “jamtronica” scene slowly started to make its way into Austin’s life, he sought to derive a unique sound from the key qualities of his favorite artists.
Austin has dedicated the past two years of his life to the crafting of electronic music infused with flavors of funk and jazz. The Kinetik Groove project draws inspiration from the classics – James Brown, Otis Redding, Al Green. Soaring synth melodies and punchy kicks bring a fresh spin to one of the most appreciated and loved genres in history. Kinetik Groove is here to stay, and ushers in a brand new generation of groove with his arrival.
